ICT students Projects Exhibition |

An exhibition aimed at promoting innovation and creativity among ICT students so that they can be able to come up with ICT related solutions so as to solve social-economic problems in Tanzania and the world at large. It was organizaed by ITSADU which stands for "Information Technology Students Association of the University of Dar es Salaam" and it was conducted on 20th July 2009. The guest of honor was his excellency Dr. Godfrey Justo, head of Computer Science Unit. It was organized and coordinated by the students under the guidence of ITSADU patron, Dr. Honest C. Kimaro
It was then proposed that the event will be taken as part of the unit activities and therefore it will be conducted every year so as to continue encouraging this spirit of creativity and innovation.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (DoCSE) is one of two core departments in the College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT) at the University of Dar es salaam (UDSM). The Department is among a few training establishments in East Africa which is involved in offering academic programmes from certificate level up to postgraduate level in Informatics disciplines. The Department’s core mission is to provide quality teaching, research and public service in Informatics.
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering comprises three major research sections: Software Development, Communication Networks and Applied Informatics.

Software Development: Focus on Programming Languages and Compilers, Operating Systems, Software Development Methodologies, Mobile and Smartcard Applications.

Communications Networks: Focus on network communications, Parallel Computing, Network Algorithms, and Distributed and Multimedia Systems.

Applied Informatics: Focus on Information theory, Man-machine Interaction, Data acquisition, Processing and Use, Database systems, Management Information Systems and Application Software.
DoCSE has 29 Academic staff and 4 Technical and Administrative Staff who are responsible for teaching, research and delivery of academic programmes. Out of 29 academic staff 6 have PhDs. Therefore there are 6 Lecturers, 9 Assistant Lecturers and the rest fall in the rank of Tutorial Assistants.

Some CSU graduands attending the 39th University of Dar es Salaam graduation ceremony which was done on 5th December 2009.
It was actually the first graduation ceremony since establishment of the School of Informatics and Communication Technologies (SICT) and allocating three units to it (Computer Science, Centre for Virtual Learning as well as Electronics and Communication). This is was immediately after the university had undergone the "Institution Restructuring Programme".
Degrees in Computer science were formerly offered by the department of Computer Science which was scheduled in the Faculty of Informatics and Virtual Education (FIVE). This was before the restructuring programmme which was done in July 2009 resulting into converting FIVE to SICT.
